ETCHINGS by ISABELLA BRANELLA - Selected works by an extraordinary graphic artist
This collection of intaglio works by Isabella Branella, albeit limited, aims to offer a satisfactory taste of the artist's qualities in the field of metal engraving, expressed in the time span between the beginning of his collaboration with the Laboratorio and today. Her engravings illustrate some of our most beautiful editions (here in the catalogue), many others in loose sheet testify to a constancy in the themes, in the skills gradually refined, in the aesthetic rendering that is always very effective. Other online exhibitions of his linocut and lithographic works will follow, techniques in which Branella excels and with which she made excellent sheets.
Isabella Branella engraves and paints in Giulianova, where she lives and works. A pupil of Alberto Manfredi at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, she carried out part of her artistic activity in the F.lli Manfredi Laboratory in Reggio Emilia, creating chalcographic engravings, linocuts, lithographs and illustrated editions.
Since 1993 he has participated in various competitions and exhibitions.
In 1997 he made a drypoint engraving for the Mavida edition of the novel Good day, said Giorgio entering by Cesare Zavattini.
In 2002 one of his drypoint accompanied the special edition of Il paradosso sull'attore by Denis Diderot, published by La Vita Felice of Milan in collaboration with the Friends of Leonardo Sciascia. He participated, at the invitation of the jury, in the third edition of the Sciascia "Amateur d’Estampes" Award and made two recordings for that year's Almanacco di Italia Nostra.
In 2005 he painted fifteen pictures for Fiori di Maggio, a collection of sonnets by Yzu (a work published for the types of Mavida) and five etchings for the book Rimbaud the son by Pierre Michon (Mavida edition, distributed by Passigli Editori).
In May 2006 he participated in the Bajo Flores Project The stories save life with a mixed media engraving. Two more of his soft and drypoint etchings will be featured in the 2007 Almanacco di Italia Nostra.
The lost conscience by Saltykov Scedrin is from 2011, with 7 original etchings, including 5 drypoint and ceramolle in b/w and two color linocuts, Mavida Edizioni.
